What We Believe
In order to be “on the same page” it’s important
to share what we believe about...
God
We believe in one God, who revealed Himself in 3 persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God created the universe and all everything in it – and continues to sustain it. All through history, He has expressed his desire to be our God and have a personal relationship with us. We believe He loves us and wants the best for us.
Jesus
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God. He chose voluntarily to be made in human likeness and was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. Although He lived a sinless life He allowed Himself to be crucified. His death paid for our sins against God. He rose from the dead three days after His crucifixion. After appearing to witnesses, He ascended into heaven where He now serves as the Mediator between God and man. We believe that at the end of time He will come again to complete His eternal plan. He is the single pathway to a relationship with God.
The Holy Spirit
The third person of God is the Holy Spirit. We believe the Holy Spirit dwells in every Christian. His indwelling presence empowers believers and marks them as children of God. The Holy Spirit guides followers of Christ in understanding and applying God's Word. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, believers are empowered to live Christ-like lives. The Holy Spirit also equips Christ followers with gifts and abilities for the purpose of building the body of Christ, so that we can have loving relationships with each other.
Man
God made us for relationship with Him. But from the beginning, the first couple were deceived by Satan, and chose their independence over God. They were separated from God by their sin. Every person since then has sinned and suffered the consequences. Until our relationship with God is restored, we remain separated from God and miss the abundant life and eternity that God has for us. In ourselves, and without God’s plan, there is nothing we can do to restore that relationship with God.
The Bible
God divinely inspired human authors to write the Bible. He communicated through them His will for our lives. We believe the Bible is inspired, accurate, complete, and reliable. God’s word is the final authority on all matters of faith and daily living. It is in the pages of His word, that God reveals his both His desire and the means for a relationship with Him.
Salvation
God has provided the means to restore our relationship with God through His grace. The means of this reconciliation is through the complete work of Jesus Christ and our response to His plan. Our relationship with God is re-established when we chose to accept Jesus Christ as God’s Son, our Saviour, and Lord. Through Him, our sins are forgiven and we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and eternal life and our relationship with God is restored.
Practically speaking, this acceptance is demonstrated through our faith commitment. We demonstrate our commitment inwardly by faith (trusting that God has the power to save us) repentance (a turning back to God –resulting in a change of heart). At the same time, we publicly express our commitment by confessing our acceptance of God's salvation and being baptized (immersed) into Jesus – showing God, others and ourselves that we are turning our lives over to Christ.
The Christian Life
Once our relationship is restored with God, a new desire to spend time with Him and know Him is birthed. The Holy Spirit enlightens us as we read God's Word, as we talk with Him in prayer, and as we enter into biblical community, with other believers. In this way we begin to grow spiritually. As we become learn more about God we desire to be like Him and please Him. This process of spiritual development motivates us to serve Him and prepares us to spend eternity with Him.
The Church
We believe the church represents Christ to a needy world. It is referred to in scripture as Christ's body. The head of the body is Christ. God arranges us, the parts of the body, just as He wants us to be. He gives each Christ follower special functions to perform for the good of the body. To remain healthy, the body's members must work together in unity. Each part contributes to the growth and maturity of the body. God works through the church to restore people back into relationship through Jesus. For this reason it is important for Christians to regularly gather together for the purpose of worship and celebration. In that context, Christians are equipped, built up, and encouraged through teaching, fellowship, prayer, and communion. Then, we are ready to be his witnesses to those who need to be restored to a relationship with God.
